I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the 42nd anniversary of the Kent State shootings. I would be a terrible alumna of Kent State if I did not.
On May 4, 1970, tragedy struck the Kent State campus. Four young men and women: Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Sandy Scheuer and William Schroeder, were shot and killed by Ohio National Guardsmen during a Vietnam War protest that was happening on campus. Allison Krause and Jeffrey Miller were participating in the protest, while Sandy Scheuer and William Schroeder were simply walking to class. A senseless tragedy.
I wish that I could have gone back to Kent today to attend the May 4 remembrance activities, but I was unable to, unfortunately, so instead of sharing with you from the present, I will share with you from the past.
Below, I have attached a link to John Filo's photograph taken on May 4, 1970 of the aftermath. It is such a tragically moving photo. I have also attached a video link to the iconic Neil Young song that was written after the May 4 shootings.
